Happy International Women's Day, everyone! 🎉
Today is about celebrating; and accelerating the change towards gender diversity, especially in spaces where women's voices need to be amplified—such as in the energy sector. It’s a fact: women make up less than 40% of the workforce in clean energy and only about 20% across the entire energy sector in Australia. Yep, we're trailing behind, but hopefully not for long! The year 2030 is being held up as an important finish line, marked with two big, bright banners of #NetZero and #Equalby30.
The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) is already on board having signed up to the Equal by 30 campaign. This global initiative specifically seeks to accelerate gender equality and diversity in the clean energy transition. This campaign, part of the Equality in Energy Transitions Initiative, targets closing the gender gap by 2030, demonstrating a shared global commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable energy sector.
Clare Savage, the chair of AER, stated “Embracing the diverse experiences and insights of women from different cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, or sexual orientations into the energy sector will help ensure a successful clean energy future." And now, the Australian Government is also setting the stage with its release of Working for Women: A Strategy for Gender Equality, launched by the Minister for Women, Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher yesterday. “This is about bringing people together. When an economy and society works for women, it works for us all.”
At Village Energy, we're all about breaking the mould and inviting women to join the helm in our mission of shaping a greener future together through smart, connected energy use. We're passionate about embracing diversity and creating exciting opportunities for our people. So much so, we have core values of ‘fun, family & wellbeing’ and ‘one incredible team’.
Our Value Statements

The campaign theme for International Women's Day 2024 is Inspire Inclusion. When we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge a better world. Co-founder & COO/CXO Yvonne Power shared that “Our passion for embracing diversity and creating opportunities is not just a statement; it's a practice. We’re committed to engaging women in roles traditionally held by men, fostering a family-inclusive workplace that values flexibility, with initiatives like our paid primary caregiver policy, offering 26 weeks of paid leave, internship pathways for students, and flexible working arrangements, we are not just talking about change; we are being the change.”
So, this International Women's Day, let's raise our glasses (or coffee mugs, we don't judge) to the incredible journey ahead. Together, we're not just dreaming of a future where gender equality is the norm; we're plugging in, powering up, and making it happen.
