Voltello by Village Energy has been featured in the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) 2025 Global Market Scan of Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS). Identified as a leading standalone solution with simple installation and real-time orchestration, Voltello is one of the few systems globally designed to empower both consumers and grid operators.
The report “Residential HEMS and Controllers: Global Market Scan” was commissioned by the IEA’s 4E TCP (Technology Collaboration Programme on Energy Efficient End-Use Equipment) and authored by the Institute for Sustainable Futures. It offers one of the most comprehensive global evaluations of HEMS platforms to date, with 51 products reviewed across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.
Voltello was recognised as a standalone, self-installable HEMS device—offering simple deployment, robust control capabilities, and real-world impact.
Why This Matters
HEMS are essential in the energy transition. This has been recognised globally with the report citing the projected Australia/Asia market size for HEMS reaching USD217.1 million by 2028. As rooftop solar, batteries, EVs and smart appliances grow in popularity, we need intelligent systems to manage this complexity—not just to benefit consumers, but to support grid stability, lower infrastructure costs, and accelerate decarbonisation.
This is where Voltello comes in.
The IEA report highlights that only a small fraction of products globally provide full orchestration and grid interaction - a gap Voltello is proudly helping to fill.
What the Report Said About Voltello
Voltello was profiled in the report as a "Separate HEMS device" (not tied to a specific OEM) with "Simple installation" (can be installed by the householder - no electrician required) and "Sophisticated" to "Orchestrated" HEMS control maturity.
This combination is rare and important. It enables rapid, low-cost deployment at scale combined with the highest levels of HEMS control. Voltello is already addressing the main barriers facing the HEMS industry today.
The report also recognises the growing need for interoperable, hybrid-control solutions that can respond both locally and via the cloud. Voltello’s flexible approach meets this challenge head-on, offering real-time orchestration, CSIP-AUS and IEEE 2030.5 compatibility, and multi-brand support across solar, batteries, EVs and household appliances.
A Proven Australian Solution, Globally Relevant
While many products in the IEA study are either still in pilot phases or limited to single-brand ecosystems, Voltello is already live in homes across Australia, delivering real savings, greater control, and grid services through flexible exports, demand response, and more.
We’re thrilled to be recognised in this influential global report and proud to represent Australian innovation on the world stage. You can read the full report here: IEA 4E Global HEMS Market Scan (PDF)
